Welcome to Stoneyholme Nursery School with Forest School

We are a local authority maintained Nursery School in Burnley, Lancashire, offering 15 hour and 30 hour funded and fee-paying places for children aged 2, 3 and 4 years, depending on eligibility.

Why choose us?

A message from Mrs Susan Holden, Headteacher...

At Stoneyholme Nursery School we are committed to children and families.

The school lies at the heart of its community and for the past 50 years has supported families and their children across three generations.

We are a maintained school specialising in early years education. Our sessions are led by a qualified Lead Teacher and a highly experienced, skilled, knowledgeable and qualified team of early years staff.

The Lead Teacher and I have taught throughout the primary age range too. This means we know what your child will be doing in primary school and how we can help them to do well when they leave us to go to school.

Our learning environment is second to none. It is spacious, well-resourced and well-organised both indoors and outdoors.

We have our own Forest School. offering children an amazing space to manage risks, co-operate and learn. Our fully qualified forest school lead has in place a full programme for all children throughout the year enabling children to explore and develop skills in the outdoor environment. We also have close links with the local Pennine Community Farm who come in to work outdoors with the children.

We also have a therapeutic Sensory Centre accessible to all children. It has a variety of equipment that also provides students with special needs with personalised sensory input.

Our curriculum is diverse and tailored to children’s needs. We do all the usual things that you would expect to see in the Early Years Foundation Stage. However, we are constantly striving to be the very best we can be.

We  have the expertise to support all children to develop their speech, language and communication.  Underpinning all we do is an in-depth understanding of early years education and child development.

The result of all this is that whilst they are here we lay the foundations for life-long learning for our children to become the best that they can be.

Parents are their child's main educators, they know their child best and know what feels right for their child. My advice to parents is always to come and see for yourself. You will get a feel for what we believe in and what we want for all our children. You will see how happy and engaged the children are learning through play. We usually find that when children visit they don’t want to leave!

We hope that you enjoy using our website to find out more about our fantastic early years provision. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
